Heat Pump Systems NOS Mapped

The Heat Pump Systems qualification is recognised as a demonstration of competence for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) (mapped against units D/602/3072, F/602/3078, L602/3083 and Y/602/3054.

 

 

 

 

 

Assessment Information

 

Designed to give installers the skills and knowledge required to correctly install heat pumps. This course has been designed with the with the intention of meeting the requirement of the National Occupational Standards.

And covers both ground and air source heat pumps

 

Assessments normally consist of a combination of practical and theory examinations.

 

Pre-requisites

 

Trainees should have a minimum NVQ Level 2/3 qualification in plumbing or conventional heating engineering, or a demonstrable number of years of relevant experience.

Also it is not required to do the course but  if you want to become MCS  registered, Water Regulations/Byelaws and Unvented Hot Water certificates will be required for MCS.

The training manual will be issued on the first day of the course, It is important that you study the content of the manual prior to the assessment.

 

The manual includes:

  • Heat pumps in context.
  • How a Heat pump works – principles and components
  • Insulation, heat losses and the effect of heating system design
  • Domestic hot water, buffer tanks and solar coils
  • Ground heat exchangers
  • Health and Safety
  • Heat pump installation
  • Maintenance and fault finding
  • Plus an appendix containing reference charts for ground heat exchanger design.

The course is recognised as a demonstration of competence for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

Certificates are normally valid for 5 years
